Origins

The story

Stack AV launched its autonomous trucking business in September 2023. Its founders had spent the previous decade building self-driving systems together, first at Carnegie Mellon and in field robotics, then at Argo AI, which they co-founded in 2016. When Argo closed, they started again with a narrower target: freight.

SoftBank Group backed the company with capital, resources and deep expertise in AI. Stack is headquartered in Pittsburgh with employees across the country, in a collaboration model that mixes a home office with remote engineering and field operations where the trucks run.

The mission is to transform how businesses transport goods: safer roads, more reliable supply chains, lower operating costs, lower emissions, and an answer to a driver shortage that is only growing.
