Perception at highway range

A truck at highway speed needs to see far and decide early. The Dynamic World Perception team builds the real-time detection of road actors and properties, including occupancy networks that identify and classify every dynamic element in the driving environment, and the long-range detection that extends performance out to where it matters for a Class 8 vehicle.

The Perception Architecture team works one level up: the foundational machine learning architectures and the systematic approaches that let the perception system scale robustly, on problems the literature does not yet cover.

Clockwork and StackOS

Beneath every autonomy application is Clockwork, Stack's custom-built, high-performance robotics middleware, and StackOS, the operating system underpinning the entire vehicle software stack. Together with the onboard half of Deploy Manager, which governs how software reaches the vehicle, they are the infrastructure backbone of a safety-critical self-driving platform.

The same systems run across the vehicle, in simulation, in the cloud and in hardware-in-the-loop testing - so behaviour observed on a test bench is behaviour on the road.

Deterministic at the edge

The firmware team owns the embedded software that bridges hardware and high-level applications: sensors, actuators and compute platforms operating reliably and in real time. It is where safety guidelines become fault handling, and where the base vehicle meets the autonomy stack.

Data engineers can trust

The AI Data Infrastructure team's mission is trusted, useful data for every part of autonomy development: ingesting, processing, curating, annotating, serving and visualising it. A company-wide suite of introspection tools serves everyone from autonomy engineers in their daily workflow to leaders assessing performance against safety benchmarks.

Proven with freight on board

Development Fleet Operations is responsible for the safe testing and operation of the newest technology. Operations Specialists drive and test autonomous trucks on public roads, haul commercial freight between customer locations, and report on system behaviour - so what the engineers build is measured against real lanes and real loads.
